Terry Davies

Composer

BAFTA Award nominee

Terry started his professional composing at the National Theatre, where he had been an experienced music director and orchestrator. As well as the National Theatre, he has written music for many UK theatres including the RSC and in the West End. He has written 2 musicals: 'The Birds' for the Istanbul City Theatre, which ran for 4 years, and 'Kes! The Musical' for the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, and York's Theatre Royal. He has an ongoing long collaboration with leading choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne, composing or adapting the music for his productions of ‘The Car Man’, ‘Play Without Words’, ‘Edward Scissorhands’, ‘Dorian Gray’, ‘Lord of the Flies’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘The Red Shoes’ and ‘The Midnight Bell’. Terry received an Olivier Award for ‘Play Without Words’. His ballet ‘Mrs. Robinson’ has been performed in San Francisco and Zurich. He recently composed the score for the animated film ‘The Land of Sometimes’ and on TV for Julia Donaldson’s ‘Tiddler’ and ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’ for which he received his 2nd BAFTA nomination. The 1st was for his songs for ‘Tipping the Velvet’. He has conducted or orchestrated for all genres of film and TV over many years, many of these receiving Academy Awards, BAFTAs and other major awards and nominations. Amongst them are ‘Hard Truths’, 'Youth', 'Florence Foster Jenkins', 'Mr Turner', 'The King's Speech', 'The Illusionist', 'Brideshead Revisited', 'The Gruffalo', ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and many more. He regularly conducts live orchestral performances to films and is an enthusiast for silent movies, often performing improvised scores on piano.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
